DeadlyWind with Apex Review
The Catshack Reports Paintball News recently completed our full assessment of a 16″ DeadlyWind Barrel with the all new Apex Tip accessory. Our initial impressions were very favorable, the barrel arrived in a standard cardboard shipping box. Once opened we found the barrel in a standard plastic barrel tube with a carefully wrapped Apex Tip alongside it. No extra fancy packaging, just the hardware, I am all for doing away with some of the marketing aesthetics to help keep the cost of a product down. The DeadlyWind Barrel, an ultra light weight instrument of paintball destruction, is comprised of carbon fiber. Aside from a carefully placed logo on both the barrel and the tip itself, its sleek outline is complimented with a dark gray pattern graphic on its exterior and the Apex Tip completely matches. This product got an instant thumbs up for a very pleasing appearance upon our initial inspection.
So it looks great … but does it work? Next came the rigorous field test, large metal barrels were placed at twenty foot intervals and a full eighty feet of distance was paced off. Our target, a three foot by three foot bit of signage swayed ever so slightly in light winds, test conditions were ideal. The barrel with Tippmann A-5 threads was quickly and easily affixed to my Tippmann X7 Phenom and preparations were complete. To round out our field test, age old paintballs were chosen, these same rounds sat in a car trunk in cooler temperatures over the past few weeks, we felt using less than good quality paintballs would lend greatly to showing whether this barrel system truly worked … or not.
As shown in our video production, numerous rounds were sent through the DeadlyWind, the result was a near flawless performance. Numerous rounds hit the target and some that didn’t could easily be attributed to my own marksmanship. Despite poor quality paintballs, little to no chopping, over distance and on target. We were able to cluster some nice tight groupings on the sign front with real success. The DeadlyWind barrel with Apex Tip puts a whole new dimension to the saying “reach out and touch someone” … with DeadlyWind you can!
